Camera Assistant
The camera assistant works under the direction of the camera operator, or reports directly to the lighting camera operator or director of photography if there is no camera operator.
Typical work activities include:
setting up cameras, selecting and mounting lenses;
acting as focus puller, i.e. keeping the camera in focus;
liaising with the script supervisor about details of shots;
moving the equipment around as required;
operating a crane and counterbalancing arm;
looking after the safety and basic maintenance of the camera and cables attached.
This is a typical entry-level job for those who wish to go on to become television camera operators.
